American Poetry in Performance: from Whitman to Hip Hop

Tyler Hoffman, Ph. D., Professor of English at Rutgers University

Book Jacket

Rutgers University professor Tyler Hoffman’s book American Poetry: From Walt Whitman to Hip Hop traces the history of performance of poetry in America, exploring its relation to conceptions of nationality and identity. GDLOFT designed this cover art to reflect the notion of performance in an urban context. The depiction of a concert flyer posted over a brick wall also elicits associations with the world of performance. The visuals on the front and back of the cover produce a sense of animation.
